Wise, Deininger Help Women's Indoor Track Open Season At Brown

Providence, RI --- Senior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) took home first in the 200 meters (26.05) and sophomore Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) recorded the top spot in the long jump (5.34m/17-7) as they both helped lead the Worcester State women's indoor track and field team at the Alden Invitational this afternoon hosted by Brown University.

The season-opening meet for the Lancers featured strong Division I competion from the hosting Bears, Bryant and Providence College.

Wise also finished 7.98 in the 60 meters for sixth while her 200 time stamped her ticket to the Open New England's in March.

Both Wise's time in the 60 and Caldarone's leap in the long jump were good to qualify for the ECAC Division III Championships.

Sophomore Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) had the fourth-best time in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles (9.31), but it was her time of 9.21 in the fifth heat that helped her hit the Open New England Championship standard in the event.

Deininger ended her solid day with fourth in the 200 (27.18) and seventh in the 60 (8.02) for a pair of Division III New England Championship times.

Junior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) posted an ECAC time of third in the 500 (1:21.70) before she chipped in with fourth in the high jump (1.48m/4-10). Sophomore Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) placed ninth in the 200 (27.55) and 15th in the 60 (8.27).

In the field, third-year Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) tossed eighth in the shot put (10.06m/33-0) and classmate Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) added 10th in the weight throw (11.92m/29-1.25).

Senior Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) continued her fine distance season with sixth in the 3,000 (11:11.81).

The 4x400 relay team of Hodgerney, Taylor and second-year classmates Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) and Kim West (Harvard, MA) crossed the finish line in fourth with a time of 4:10.66.

Next week the Blue and Gold wrap up their Fall semester at the Harvard Open.
