Women’s Track Takes Home Fourth at Tufts Invitational

 

Medford, MA --- Senior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) had a pair of top performances as she helped lead the Worcester State women's indoor track & field team to fourth overall at the Tufts Invitational this afternoon.

Wise and junior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) helped the Lancers net 81 points as a squad. Wise was the top finisher in the 200 meters (26.19) before she added second overall in the 60 (7.93) while Deiniger was second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.19) and sixth in both the 60 (8.07) and the 200 (27.49).

In the field sophomore Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) had a leap of second in the long jump (16-5.25/5.01m) and freshman Francesca Casasanta (Hopkinton, MA) cleared fifth in the high jump (4-11.75/1.52m) to stamp her ticket to the Division III New England Championships.

Freshman Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) notched third in the 400 (62.72) as she also helped the 4x400 meter relay team that was also comprised of sophomore classmates Kim West (Harvard, MA), Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) and Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) to fifth overall (4:22.89).

Hodgerney tallied eighth in the 400 (1:04.57) and ninth in the 200 (27.81). McMahon chalked up eighth in the long jump (4.59m/15-0.75) and ninth in the 400 (1:05.14).

Fourth-year Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) paced the distance corps with fifth in the 3,000 (10:59.32). Junior Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) was also sixth in the shot put (36-7.75/11.17m) and seventh in the weight throw (38-1.50/11.62m).

Third-year Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) placed sixth in the weight throw (39-1.25/11.92m) followed by sophomore Shannon Trybus (Bondsville, MA) who finished eighth (37-4.75/11.40m).
