Wise Leads Women's Indoor Track To Sixth At Tufts Stampede Invitational

 

Wise Named MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week

Medford, MA --- Senior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) sprinted to first in the 200 meters (25.76) and fifth in the 60 meters (7.94) as she helped lead Worcester State to sixth place at the Tufts Jumbo Invitational this afternoon. 

Today's meet, which featured solid Division II and III competition from around New England, was a warm-up to next week's MASCAC/Alliance Championships at Southern Maine.

Sophomore Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) was the runner-up in the long jump (17-2.25/5.24m) and eighth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.65).

Junior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) also added fourth in the 60 meter hurdles and she just missed the finals in the 60 with a ninth place split of 8.13.

As of this past monday, Wise's best 60 meter time is ranked 17th in the NCAA Division III (7.88 - MIT) while Deininger's 60 meter hurdle split is 12th overall (9.10 - Harvard). Both times are also ranked third in Division III New England.

Deininger's 60 time at Harvard is 35th in the Division III rankings (7.96 - 8th in DIII New England) and Caldarone's best long jump is 26th in the nation and fourth in DIII New England (17-6.25/5.34m - Harvard).

Senior Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) was just three seconds off her school-record time in the 5,000 (18:31.70) in sixth and freshman Francesca Casasanta (Hopkinton, MA) cleared fourth a season best height in the high jump (5-1.75/1.57m). With their solid performances, both competitors added their names to the list of Division III New England qualifiers.

Other standout marks in the field included second-year Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) notched seventh in the long jump (15-11.50/4.86m) before sophomore Cayla Leinonen (Spencer, MA) qualified for the Division III New England's in the high jump (4-11.75/1.52m) with ninth.

Third-year Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) also placed seventh in the shot put (37-09.25/11.51m). 

Junior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) was eighth in the 400 (61.39) and sophomore Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) finished eighth in the 200 (26.99).
