McMahon, Hodgerney Shine For Women's Indoor Track At Wesleyan Invitational

 

Middletown, CT --- Senior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) qualified for the Division III New England Championships in two events as she helped lead the Worcester State women's indoor track and field team at the non-scoring Wesleyan Invitational this afternoon.

McMahon put up a pair of indoor season bests with third in the 400 meters (1:01.23) and fifth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.57). Classmate Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) also sprinted a solid time of sixth in the 200 (27.13), while hitting the Division III New England standard in the event.

Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) was another standout performer for the Blue and Gold with second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.45), fifth in the shot put (35-10/10.92 meters) and sixth in the 800 (2:39.59).

Junior Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) paced the throwers with second overall in the shot put (37-5.25/11.41m) followed by sophomore Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, MA) (42-6.25/12.96m) and junior Molly Downing (Dedham, MA) (42-5.25/12.93m) who were just off each other in the shot put.

Junior Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) added eighth in the triple jump (32-0.75/9.77m).

The 4x400 meter relay team anchored by McMahon's hand-time split of 1:02.00, raced to fourth with a time of 4:21.13. Junior Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA) led off followed by Hodgerney second and sophomore Aliya-Marie Melville (Worcester, MA/South) as the third leg.

Freshman Rachel Lauzon (Carver, MA), teammate Danielle Bavoux (Medway, MA) and first-year Sarah McIsaac (Weymouth, MA) were sixth (1:51.41), seventh (1:52.42) and eighth (1:55.41), respectively in the 600.

Senior Maggie Ingraham (Danvers, MA) notched sixth in the 1000 (3:42.11) and eighth in the mile (6:07.17) while sophomore Danielle Cote (Dighton, MA) was eighth in the 800 (2:42.24) and freshman Shayla Schoeneberger (Vernon, CT) timed eighth in the 3,000 (12:24.36).

The Lancers will compete next week at the Tufts Invitational as a warm-up to the MASCAC Championships on February 14.
