Jasper Places Second In Pentathlon At Division III New England Championships

Springfield, MA --- Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) captured second place out of 15 entrants with 3,236 points in the pentathlon on the first day of the Division III New England Championships this evening hosted by Smith.

Jasper was second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.19), the 800 meters (3:31.59) and shot put (39-5/12.01 meters) before she added seventh in the high jump (4-9/1.45m) and 10th in the long jump (15-2.75/4.64m).

She was 208 points away from defending Division III New England champion, junior Peyton Dostie (Standish, ME) of Southern Maine as Jasper moved into 11th on the NCAA Division III national list this evening. The top 17 are chosen for the National Indoor Championships in three weeks.

Jasper was also 122 points off from former heptathlon All-American Elke Aun who set the program record at Wesleyan in 1996. She captured All-New England pentathlon accolades with her finish this evening for the first time in her outstanding WSU career.

Tomorrow, Jasper is slated to run on the 4x200 meter relay, which is ranked second in New England right behind the team from MIT.
