WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's Asgerdur Jana Agustsdottir (Akureyri, Iceland) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's indoor field athlete and rookie of the week, as announced by the league Monday (Mar. 12) afternoon.
This past week at the NCAA Division III National Championships, Agustsdottir competed in not just one event, but two (heptathlon and high jump). She came in 11th place in the pentathlon (3,171) en route to a personal record in the 60 meter hurdles (9.56), and then place 16th in the high jump (1/60m/5' 3") the next day.
"Jana ended her freshman indoor season at the national level and that is nothing short of fantastic," commented women's head coach Andrea Ouellette. "She capped it off with a season PR in the hurdles and solid all around performances for the weekend. We are excited to see her success carry into the outdoor season and see what she can do!"
Her results of the pentathlon are: shot put: third place – 11.07m (36'4"), high jump: seventh place – 1.62m (5' 3.75"), 60 meter hurdles: 14th place - 9.56, long jump: 14th place – 4.92m (16' 1.75"), 800 meters: 16th place – 2:48.58.
