Volleyball Swept at Worcester City Tournament

Clark 3, Worcester State

Worcester, MA --- Cross town rival Clark (1-1) handed the Lancers a 3-0 setback this morning in the first round of the Worcester City Tournament. WSC will face-off against Assumption, who lost to WPI 3-1 in their 11 AM match-up. Worcester State (2-5) lost a close 25-23 opening round set before dropping the second and the third sets, 25-18 and 25-16.

Senior Lauren Saylor (Swansea, MA) led the attack as she tallied nine kills. Sophomore Katey Figella (Feeding Hills, MA), freshman Kate O'Rourke (Milford, MA) and junior Brittany Ledoux (Nashua, NH) all combined for 11 kills for WSC.

Defensively, third-year Michelle Maass (Halifax, MA) recorded eight digs. Sophomore Brittany Stoddard (Orange, MA) led the squad with 15 assists and two aces while Jodi Hallett (Gill, MA) also handed out nine assists as well. 

 

Assumption 3, Worcester State 0

Worcester, MA --- Division II Assumption (1-4) defeated 3-0 the Lancers (2-6), 25-17, 25-22 and 25-18, this afternoon in the third place game of the Worcester City Tournament.

Worcester State was led on offense by Saylor who finished with five kills while Forgue and Maass combined for 12 of the teams 23 digs. Stoddard also handed out 11 assists. 

The Lancers also ended the contest with four service aces and they made 23 combined errors (16 return-7 ball handling) trying to hit back the ball to the Greyhounds.

For her efforts, Saylor was the lone Worcester State player selected to the All-Tournament team.

Worcester State heads west to Paxton for a 7 PM matchup against Anna Maria on Thursday before they host their first home match against Southern Maine at 1 PM.
