Volleyball Goes 1-1 to Round Out MASCAC Slate

Framingham, MA --- Worcester State defeated Framingham State 3-1 before losing 3-0 to Westfield State as the Lancers went 1-1 to settle out their MASCAC record to 4-2 in good position for the conference tournament in two weeks. The Lancers record also stands at 11-12 overall

The Lancers won their first two sets against the Rams 25-15 and 25-17 before FSC won the third set 25-16. WSC closed out the match with a close 25-18 fourth set to win the match.

Senior Lauren Saylor (Swansea, MA) registered her fifth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 11 digs while sophomore Brittany Stoddard (Orange, MA) added 29 assists. Stoddard and senior Colleen O'Brien (Shrewsbury, MA) combined for nine of the teams 12 block assists while Stoddard also added a team-best three aces. Second-year Joanne Griener (Orange, MA) notched 17 digs to go along with two aces.

In the match against the Owls, the Lancers were defeated in three straight sets, 25-21, 25-16 and 25-14.

Saylor had a squad-best nine kills to go along with eight digs while Stoddard handed out 19 assists. Griener recorded 13 digs as Stoddard and second-year Katey Figella (Feeding Hills, MA) also had one solo block.

The volleyball team has a busy week ahead when they play four road non-conference contests. The Lancers will play Keene State on Tuesday (7 PM), Trinity on Friday (3:30 PM) and head to Mass Maritime (1 PM) for a tri-match with Thomas (3 PM).
