Volleyball Opens MASCAC Play With 3-2 Triumph Over MCLA

 

North Adams, MA --- Senior Becky Lebel (Millbury, MA) finished with a .500 attacking percentage and sophomore Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) posted a double-double as they both helped Worcester State claim their first MASCAC victory of the season in a 3-2 win over MCLA.

Both teams traded barbs in a back-and-forth contest as the Blue and Gold (3-6, 1-0 MASCAC), defeated the Trailblazers, 25-13, 23-25, 25-16, 23-25 and 15-13. MCLA falls to 0-7 (0-1 MASCAC) with the setback.

For the Lancers, Lebel finished with 11 kills in 20 attempts as Jasper ended her night with equal sums of 10 kills and 10 digs.

Junior Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) also distinguished herself with 16 digs, six kills, three solo blocks and a pair of block assists as sophomore Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) handed out 32 helpers.

Five players for WSU finished with double-digit dig totals including third-year Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) who put up 15 and Lewis chipped in with 14.

Sophomore Meg Barbarotta (Pittsfield, MA) paced the MCLA with 11 kills and junior Julian Christian (Cohes, NY) had a solid outing wiht eight kills and five solo blocks.

Second-year Brittany Kish (E. Longmeadow, MA) had a match-best 36 assists for the Trailblazers as rookie Brittany Parent (S. Deerfield, MA) had 33 digs.

Both teams will play in tri-matches on Saturday.

The Lancers head up to Southern Maine and play UMass Dartmouth at 2 before matching-up against the hosting Huskies at 4 PM. MCLA entertains Becker at 11 AM and Green Mountain at 3 o'clock.
