Ryan and Barry Named to Worcester Area All-Star Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's Jake Ryan (Northbridge, Mass.) and Adam Barry (Auburn, Mass.) both have been named to the sixth annual Worcester Area Baseball All-Star team after a vote by sports information directors representing nine Worcester area colleges and universities.

 

After being named to the first team of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) team, junior utility player, Ryan, was named to the first team of the Worcester Area Baseball All-Star team.

 

Ryan led his team with a .338 batting average, .423 on base percentage, and a .500 slugging percentage. The junior tallied 48 hits, 13 doubles, five triples, 21 RBI, and a team-high 10 stolen bases. Defensively, he posted a .955 fielding percentage in 132 total chances.

 

Worcester State's Barry was named to the second team of the Worcester Area All-Star team as he listed a .310 batting average, .373 slugging percentage, and a .391 on base percentage. Barry gathered 44 hits, 22 runs, nine doubles, and 19 RBI. Along with teammate Ryan, Barry also marked the team-high 10 stolen bases. Defensively, Barry marked a .981 fielding percentage in 52 total chances in the outfield.

 

WPI's senior Alex Venditti (Newton, Mass.) was tabbed the Worcester Area Player of the Year, while Holy Cross' junior Brendan King (Brookline, Mass.) captured the Worcester Area Pitcher of the Year honors. Becker College's sophomore Josiah Shepard (Providence, R.I.) was recognized as the Worcester Area Rookie of the Year. Fitchburg State's head coach Kevin Barnaby and Nichols head coach Nick Puccio shared the Worcester Area Coach of the Year accolades.
