Game 2

Worcester State: 3

St. Norbert: 7

How it Happened:

In opening game action Worcester State would find themselves in a bit of trouble early as they allowed seven runs in the top of the first before beginning to find some offensive rhythm in the second started off with a first year Jack Savio (Andover, MA) double just over the first baseman's head. He was then advanced to second off a senior Mason Bates (Shrewsbury, MA) sacrifice bunt to put him into scoring position. Sophomore Ryan Jewett (Natick, MA) then recorded his own double to bring Savio across the plate for the Lancers first run. They would repeat the performance in the third as first year Chris Mondesir (Roslindale, MA) would work the itch count to a walk onto first where he then stole second and was carried to third by a sophomore Tyler Normandie (Lowell, MA) single deep to left to grab third. First year Riggs Catlin (Dedham, MA) would lay a grounder to short to provide Mondesir the space to record run number two.

St. Norbert would answer back with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth, but again the Lancers would rise to the challenge and reset the spread between the two teams. Senior Xavier Quezada (Providence, RI) would open the action with a single to left field and sophomore Kevin Doyle (Bridgewater, MA) would find his way on due to an error in his deep drop to center field. Mondesir would move everyone a base with his single bunt before Normandie would hit a two RBI single to set the 9-4 score.

Two more runs would be added in the bottom of the fifth for Worcester as Savio would take the first pitch deep for a solo homer. Bates would then get himself on base that would allow for a Jewett double to send him across for a 9-6 score by the end of the fifth. The game would be decided in the seventh as St. Norbert would add three runs at the top of the inning but that was nothing to what Worcester State would mount at the bottom of the inning. The Lancers would rally and record uns by Bates, sophomore Jeremy Delacruz (Lowell, MA), Doyle, senior Tyler Smith (Leominster, MA) and after a double by junior Joe Auger (Lowell, MA) for walk off runs by Normandie and Catlin for the 13-12 victory.

In a quick return to action for game two things would remain quiet for the first first inning before Worcester's Catlin would lay down a bunt that was mishandled by the third baseman to allow senior Anthony Iamarone (Providence, RI) to record the first run of game two. Catlin would then create a run two off a Quezada sacrifice fly out to center. St. Norbert would respond in the bottom of the inning with two of their own to start the race to the finish and the win. The bottom third would see St. Norbert produced three more runs before Worcester could remove them from the plate after a line drive back at the pitcher would remove first year Jack Hildred (Bellingham, MA) from the mound as a precaution. Things remained quiet until the fifth when two more runs were added against Worcester and unlike game one, they were only able to make one back in the top of the seventh to fall in game two 7-3.
