Men's Basketball Dominates Dean

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's basketball team defeated Dean College 87-63 in a non-conference contest Wednesday night at John P. Brissette Court.

With the win, Worcester State improves to 2-3 overall on the season, while the Bulldogs drop to 2-3.

A D'Caran Anderson bucket gave the Bulldogs a 7-1 lead just 1:37 into the contest, but it would be all Lancers from there. Worcester State went on a 16-4 run over the next three minutes to take a 17-11 lead.

By the half, Worcester State had extended its lead to 48-22. Senior Tyler Dion (Barre, Mass.) led all scorers with 13 first half points, while junior Erik Bjorn (Holden, Mass.), sophomore Corey Olivier (Maynard, Mass.), and junior Chris Cardoso (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) all scored eight.

The Lancers were on cruise control in the second half in order to close out the victory. Dean narrowly outscored the Lancers 41-39 in the half, but the damage was done in the first as the hosts securing the home-opening victory.

Dion scored 21 points to lead all players, while Bjorn had an impressive 14-point, 15-board double-double. Cardoso knocked down 18 points in the victory.

Next up for Worcester State, they will play at #10 Nichols on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
