Sterling, MA --- Salem State junior Jeff Santora (Millbury, MA) medaled with a score of 68 (-3) to help the Vikings take first place at the Worcester State Invitational this afternoon at the par 71 Sterling National Country Club. Competitors battled the periods of intermittent rain during the duration of the tournament.
SSC took home the crown with 298 points followed by Nichols (304), Trinity (310) while the Lancers and Bentley tied for fourth with a 318.
WSC sophomore Bob Bruso (Auburn, MA) carded 71 for even par in second while fourth-year Chris Valentine (Topsfield, MA) of Amherst and junior Shawn Santos (Agawam, MA) of Nichols each notched third with a 73 (+2). Senior Chris Healey of Nichols (Charlton, MA) and Springfield fourth-year Michael LaJoie (Enfield, CT) each took fifth while Nichols junior Pasquale Pio (Somers, CT) was alone in seventh with 75 (+4). Second-year Justin Haapala (Danielson, CT) of Fraklin Pierce, Salem State sophomore teammates Brian Pryor (Rutland, MA) and Luke Paradis (Haverhill, MA) along with third-year Josh Grossman (Great Neck, NY) of Trinity rounded out the top finishers as they each tied for eighth with 76 (+5).
Worcester State senior Nick Lombardi (N. Grafton, MA) tied for 17th with a score of 79 (+8) as he tied eight other competitors. Junior Dave Urella (Worcester, MA) fired an 80 (+9) to tie for 25th while Mike Leveroni (Arlington, MA) tallied an 88 (+17). Freshman Jim Sarkisian rounded out WSC's finishers with a total of 115 (+44).
The Lancers will wrap up their season when they head to Rhode Island College for a one-day tournament at Triggs Country Club.
