Lancers Drop One to Skyhawks

Worcester, MA - The Lancers made the trip to Division I Stonehill College for a meeting with the Skyhawks Tuesday evening. Worcester's three goals were unfortunately not enough as they ultimately fell to Stonehill in a late third period surge by the Skyhawks.

Senior Forward Brendan Ronan (Saugus, MA) led the team with five shots, one of them resulting in Worcester's third goal of the game that occurred late in the 2nd period, and their second lead of the game. Ronan's goal was assisted by junior forward Deiter Stange (Niles, IL). Sophomore forward Shane Prifrel (Inver Grove Heights, MN) and graduate defender Henry Bruckner (Franklin, MA) also recorded a goal each to their names, with Prifrel's unassisted coming eight minutes into the game. Bruckner's goal was assisted by senior forward Mikey Wilson (Alexandria, VA). 

 

Stonehill's Dean Schwenninger netted two goals for the Skyhawks and also led the team with five shots, while Brendan Nehmer added a goal and an assist to his tally. Jake Cady opened Stonehill's scoring with a goal just under ten minutes into the game to even the score at one apiece, while John Peloso fired one in two minutes after. Carter Rapalje, Kyle Heath and Frank Ireland all assisted in sealing the Skyhawk victory.

 

In the net, sophomore Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) recorded 21 saves on 26 shots for the Lancers, while Stonehill's John Day saved 28 out of 31. 

 

The loss drops Worcester to a 3-7 overall record on the season, while Stonehill goes to 10-1-1.

 

The Blue & Gold are back in action this coming Saturday in a conference meeting with Westfield, with puck drop slated for 3:20pm at the DCU Center. #WeAreWorcester
