Coach Degon enters his seventh season as an assistant coach after previously being the head coach of the team from 1992-94. Since 1995 Degon has also been both an NIHOA and CMHOA ice hockey official.

As a standout player for Worcester State University, Degon was selected an All-American in the 1974-75 season by the NAIA. Degon was also a member of the 1974 ECAC Division III Championship team and a captain on the 1974-75 squad. Degon is currently the school record holder in career goals (209) and points (317) while he is second in assists (108). Degon's total goals are also the second most in NCAA Division III history.

In 1972, Degon topped the NCAA in scoring (71 goals) and he also led the ECAC in scoring in 1973 and 1975. In addition, Degon was named to the ECAC Player of the Week 17 times from 1972-75. Degon also has the distinction of resetting the ECAC and Division III career record for hat tricks during the 1975 season (43).

A 1996 member of the St. Peter's High School Hall of Fame, Degon graduated as an outstanding baseball and hockey player for the Guardians in 1971. As a hockey player, Degon was named a Central Mass All-Star in 1968-69, 1969-70 and 1970-71. In his junior and senior seasons Degon was the team captain and in 1970-71 he led Central Mass in scoring. As a baseball player he was selected as an All-Catholic League team representative in 1968-69, 1969-70 and 1970-71 as well as to the All-Worcester City team in 1969-70 and 1970-71. In the 1970-71 season Degon was also honored as the District III Most Valuable Player.

Degon was tabbed the 1973 recipient for the Sports Illustrated Award for Merit and he also received the 1975 Mathew Hehir Memorial Award. Degon is a member of the Worcester State Athletics Lancer Hall of Fame after the 1973-74 Ice Hockey team was enshrined in the class of 2005. In 2010, Degon was honored as an inagural member of the Worcester Hockey Hall of Fame.
