Men's Outdoor Track & Field Kicks Off Campaign at BSU Bears Invite

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's outdoor track & field team opened its 2021 season on Saturday afternoon at the BSU Bears Invitational.

A pair of Lancers won their events on the day, with Hoang Vo (Worcester, Mass.) taking first place in the pole vault at 3.20 meters and Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.) taking first in the 5,000 meter run at 16:27.14.

Worcester State had two finishers in the top five of the 800 meter run on the afternoon, led by fourth place finisher Robert Doig (Ashby, Mass.) with a time of 2:17.99, followed closely by Brody Dobbs (Hopedale, Mass.) in fifth at 2:20.08. In the 1,500 meter run, junior Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.) was fifth at 4:27.78.

In the field events, two Lancers finished in the top-six of the javelin throw. Colin Brennan (Newbury, Mass.) placed second with a toss of 50.37 meters, while Matt Long (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was sixth at 37.30 meters. In the discus, Jack Houlihan (Holden, Mass.) had a heave of 33.45 meters to finish in third place, while DJ Gagnon (Dracut, Mass.) was sixth in the shot put at 10.67 meters.

Worcester State will get back to the track in two weeks, traveling to Fitchburg State for the Jim Sheehan Invitational on April 10.
