Lancers Picked First in MASCAC Preseason Coaches Poll

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women’s Ice Hockey team has been selected to finish first in the inaugural MASCAC preseason Coaches poll that is voted on by the conference coaches. Worcester State won their third and final ECHA Championship when they took down Rivier in OT action 2-1, to sweep the conference tournament championships.

Receiving four of the six first place votes, the Lancers look to continue their success after winning their third straight Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (EHCA) title last season. Returning in goal is Kelsey Czerniawski who finished with a 1.91 GAA, 503 saves and a .930 save percentage, including 23 saves in the ECHA Championship last year.

Finishing behind Worcester State in a three-way tie at 17 points, but with Anna Maria leading the tie break with two first place votes, is Anna Maria, Plymouth State and Rivier. Claiming the fifth spot is MCLA and the final position goes to first year program Framingham State.

The inaugural women’s ice hockey season gets underway November 1, as Worcester State will host Arcadia on home ice, with non-conference action and culminates with the first-ever MASCAC Women’s Ice Hockey Tournament beginning on February 26. Grab all the details at mascac.com and mascac.tv.
