Cosenza Picks Up NEWLA Defender of the Week Honor

Chicopee, MA --- Worcester State senior Amanda Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) has been tabbed as this week’s NEWLA Defender of the Week for her performance in a victory against Rhode Island College this past week.

Cosenza picked up a game-best seven ground balls while causing three turnovers to help lead the Lancers to a 17-13 win over the Anchorwomen. Cosenza also recorded three goals and two assists in the triumph.

Through two games, Cosenza currently leads the team in ground balls (11) and caused turnovers (4) while she is in assists second with four. Cosenza also tops the NEWLA in ground balls per game (5.50) as she is also tied for second in assists per game (2.00).

With 45 goals and 36 assists in her four-year career, Cosenza is fifth on WSC’s all-time scoring list. Cosenza also has 101 ground balls and 41 forced miscues to her credit primarily playing on the attack and in the midfield. 

Worcester State is currently 1-1 on the season and will take on UMass Dartmouth tomorrow at 7 PM before they open up conference play at Becker on Saturday at noon.
