
WORCESTER, Mass. – Despite having to forfeit No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, the Worcester State University women's tennis team posted a 6-3 win over the Clark University Cougars Thursday evening at the Corash Tennis Courts located on the campus of Clark.
Worcester State began the match out with two back-to-back doubles wins as Nathalie Khafaga (Auburn, Mass.) and Lauren Taylor (Attleboro, Mass.) defeated Anna Gates and Katie Benson by a score of 8-4, and Alexis Silk (Greenfield, Mass.) and Rachel Green (Worcester, Mass.) downed Chloe Dunnell and Maggie Tarbox by a score of 8-2. The Lancers took one loss in doubles, as they had to forfeit the No. 3 slot.
Going into the singles competition ahead 2-1, Worcester State's No. 5 Isabel Badeau (Cumberland, R.I.) and No. 2 Taylor came away with 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2 victories for the 4-1 push. The Lancers clinched the match at the No. 4 spot when Green defeated Kaylyn Landahl 6-4 and 6-2 to put the Lancers ahead 5-1.
Worcester State saw one other point at the No. 3 spot when Silk defeated Tarbox 6-4, 6-4. Clark closed out singles play with a win from Gates as she defeated Khafaga in set scores of 6-1, 5-7, and a tiebreaker of 10-7. The Cougars picked up their last point as Worcester State had to forfeit the No. 6 singles flight.
Both the Lancers and the Cougars conclude their 2016-17 seasons with the spring match, and Worcester State ends the season at 8-7, while Clark wraps up at 5-11.
