Women's Tennis Slides Past Salem State

SALEM, Mass.- The Worcester State University women's tennis team won their sole match of the 2020-21 season 5-4 over Salem State University.

With the win, the Lancers finish 1-0 on the season and the Vikings finish 0-1 on the season.

Dominique Alves (Ludlow, Mass.), Monika Mularski (Auburn, Mass.), Emma Collings (Marion, Mass.) and Rebekah Riley (Ellington, Conn.) were celebrated by the Lancers as the four Worcester State seniors on the roster.

All four seniors recording at least one win on the day when Worcester State started strong finishing 3-0 in doubles play. Riley and Alyson Langhorst (Natick, Mass.) were the first to post and 8-5 win on the third doubles court. After a rocky start, Charlotte Mullane (Sterling, Mass.) and Collings came back from a deficit to secure an 8-4 win for the Lancers. First doubles team, Alves and Mularski, played a strong match against Anastasia Startseva (Volksburg, Russia) and Alexandria Floyd (Burlington, Mass.) but the Lancers won due to injury.

Mullane and Collings the strong second doubles duo secured the two singles wins for the Lancers and proved to be as strong in singles play as they were in doubles. The afternoon was filled with close games and deuces throughout, none as much as Riley who took Alexis Alli (Beverly, Mass.) to a tiebreaker in the first set, but ultimately Alli prevailed.
