
Buzzards Bay, MA --- For the second time this season, freshman Leah Walczak and sophomore Mercedes Arnold have each been tabbed as MASCAC Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances this past weekend as they helped Worcester State finish second at Smith Tartan Invitational.
Walczak, who hails from Whitinsville, MA, cops her second straight track athlete of the week award for clocking 1:00.29 in the 400 meter dash as she captured top honors in the event. Walczak shaved one second off her time from last week as she is currently eighth in Division III New England in the event.
Arnold, a product of Mira Loma, CA, scored 30 of the teams 126 points as she took home first in the triple jump (10.75 meters), second in the long jump (4.86 meters) before she placed sixth in the high jump (1.40 meters). Arnold also ran a leg of the winning 4x200 relay squad which ran a time of 1:51.42.
The Lancers will hit the track again next week at the MASCAC Championships and the New England Alliance Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Saturday.
