Boston, MA --- Sophomore Mara Kralian (N.
Grafton, MA) and freshman Cathy Chude (Marlboro,
MA) each set school records this afternoon to lead the
women’s indoor track team at the Harvard Open. The event
featured competition from all divisions along with several local
community colleges and club teams.
Kralian posted a Division III-best time of 7.96 in the 60 meters
while Chude notched a preliminary time of 9.51 in the 60 meter
hurdles to each establish the new Worcester State mark. Chude would
end the meet placing 10th (9.84) in the event. Kralian would also
finish second in the long jump (5.45m) and ninth in the 200
(26.57).
Freshman Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat)
notched sixth in the 60 (8.17) and 10th in the 200 (26.81) while
sophomore Leah Walczak (Whitinsville, MA) tallied
sixth in the 400 (1:00.61). Walzak also placed 20th in the 200
(27.85).
In the 60 meter hurdles, freshman teammates Steph
Muse (Chelmsford, MA) and Kayle McElroy (Rutland, MA)
finished 12th and 13th, respectively, with a time of 9.96.
In the distance events, freshman Erin Donohue
(Saugus, MA) recorded 14th in the 3,000 (11:56.24) and 28th in the
800 (2:38.57) while classmate Brittany Grueter
(Foxboro, MA) placed 14th (11:20.58) in the 3k.
Junior Andrea Ouellette (Salisbury, MA) paced the
field events as she chalked up fifth in the triple jump (10.96m)
and 18th (4.74m) while sophomore Mercedes Arnold
(Mira Loma, CA) leaped sixth in the long jump (10.95m) and eighth
overall in the triple jump (5.15m).
Junior Christina Bisbee (Attleboro, MA) tossed a
season best 13.48m in the weight throw while Chude capped off the
meet 12th in the shot put (11.08m). First-year Elizabeth
Grebe (Clifton Park, NY) rounded out things in the field
as she finished 17th (10.27m) in the shot and 21st in the weight
throw (10.83m).
In relay action, Muse, McElroy along with freshman teammates
Shannon Mayhew (Westfield, MA) and Rose
Mathiue (Cambridge, MA) placed seventh in the 440 yard
relay with a time of 4:23.31.
Worcester State returns to action next semester when they head to
Tufts on January 16.
