Women's Outdoor Track Moves To 40th In USTFCCCA Division III National Index | Lancers Move Up To 10th In New England Regional Rankings
Middletown, MA --- Senior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) won the 100 meters (12.59) and the 100 meter hurdles (14.76) as she helped pace the Worcester State women's outdoor track and field team at the non-scoring Wesleyan Invitational.
Deininger also helped anchor the second place 4x100 meter relay of sophomore Arianna Freeman (Brockton, MA) leading off, junior Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) in second and classmate Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) as the third leg that is currently 14th in the NCAA Division III.
For her efforts this week, Deininger has now been recognized by the MASCAC with weekly laurels for the third consecutive week. Her 100 meter hurdle split put her into a tie for the 16th best time in the nation (48.45).
Hodgerney led the sprinters with the top 200 time (25.64) to qualify for the Open New England Championships and the second fastest 100 (12.61) while sophomore Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) had the best 400 (1:00.02). Senior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) also won the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.16) for an ECAC Division III time.
Freshman Aliya-Marie Melville (Worcester, MA/South) also recorded seventh in the 100 and eighth in the 200 (27.37) as sophomore Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA) finished third in the 400 (1:02.26).
The 4x400 relay of Bunszell leading off, junior Kim West (Harvard, MA), Riehl third and Taylor at anchor placed second with a time of 4:08.63.
Junior Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) recorded fouth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.43) for a Division III New England time and sophomore Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.09).
Freshman Danielle Cote (Dighton, MA) added third in the 800 (2:40.56) and sixth in the 1,500 (5:29.86).
In the field, freshman Erin McIntyre (Whitinsville, MA) cleared the gold ECAC standard in the high jump (5-2/1.58m) as Caldarone won the long jump (16-7.25/5.06m). Sophomore Francesca Casasanta (Hopkinton, MA) took first in the triple jump (33-9.50/10.30m) and qualified for the Division III New Englands with fourth in the high jump (4-11.75/1.52m).
Senior Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) had the longest discus toss (105-6.50/32.17m) and Jasper bested the field in the javelin throw (128-4/39.12m) while also placing fifth in the 200 (26.17) and hitting an ECAC standard in the 100 meter hurdles (15.77).
Junior Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) was the runner-up with a new personal best in the shot put (37-8.50/11.49m) as Werneth was right behind in third (37-6.75/11.45m).
Melville placed fourth in the long jump (15-7.50/4.76m) followed by junior Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) who was third in the hammer (129-0/39.31m), fourth in the discus (96-7/29.45m) and fifth in the shot put (32-8.25/9.96m).
Sophomore Molly Downing (Dedham, MA) took third in the discus (98-5/30.0m), fifth in the shot put (31-3/9.53m) and sixth in the hammer (110-11/33.80m).
Second-year Samantha Barron (N. Andover, MA) and sophomore Courtney Spinelli (Tewksbury, MA) both were third (114-11/35.04m) and fourth (103-0/31.39m) in the javelin, respectively.
Next week the Lancers will head to the Springfield Invitational as a warm-up to their MASCAC meet on April 25.
