Volleyball Jumps to 2-0 in MASCAC in Weekend Wins over MCLA and Mass Maritime

North Adams, MA --- Senior Lauren Saylor (Swansea, MA) helped the Lancers jump to 2-0 in the conference with a pair of 3-0 wins this weekend over the Mass Maritime and MCLA.In the triumph against Mass Maritime, Saylor tallied her 1,000th kill.

In the triumph against the Buccaneers, the Lancers won in sets, 25-12, 25-11 and 25-9. Worcester State racked up 16 team aces as six teamates each notched at least two service aces. Saylor led the effort with six kills while sophomore Juliana Tyo (Pepperell, MA) also added five kills.

Against the Trailblazers, both teams played close matches, but WSC prevailed in every set as they defeated MCLA, 25-23, 25-21 and 25-23. Saylor and freshman Kate O'Rourke (Milford, MA) each registered eight kills while senior Colleen O'Brien (Shrewsbury, MA) tallied seven kills.

Sophomore Brittany Stoddard (Orange, MA) handed out 33 assists in six matches while freshman Jodi Hallett (Gill, MA) added seven assists in the win over Mass Maritime. Second-year Joanne Griener (Orange, MA) also recorded 13 digs in two matches.

The Lancers also had five team-blocks in the victory against MCLA.

Worcester State has two 7 PM matches in the next week when they travel to Newbury on Tuesday before they host Becker on Thursday.
