Volleyball Outsted From MASCAC Tournament

Westfield, MA --- Second seeded Bridgewater State women's volleyball team advanced to the MASCAC tournament championship match with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 29-27) victory over #3 Worcester State in the semifinals.

In the third game, Worcester State held a 24-21 lead before Bridgewater battled back for the hard-earned victory.

Sophomore Shelly DePina led the Bears with 17 kills; she had a .484 hitting percentage. Julie Clerc and Kristina Campbell had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Natalie Cohen racked up 40 assists for the Bears and Brianne Cobb collected 16 digs.

Lauren Saylor (Swansea, MA) led the Lancers with her seventh double-double of the season (11 kills and 11 digs) while Joanne Grenier (Orange, MA) tallied 12 digs. Sophomore Brittany Stoddard (Orange, MA) also handed out 21 assists.

The Lancers had a combined 10 block assists as sophomore Katey Figella (Feeding Hills, MA) had four while classmate Juliana Tyo (Pepperell, MA) notched four.

 

Worcester State ends their season at 15-17 overall. Bridgewater State was eventually defeated 3-1 in the MASCAC final by top-seeded Westfield State, who earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
