Lancers Fall Short to the Engineers

Worcester, MA-  The Worcester State Volleyball team (2-4, 0-0) looks to bounce back from a tough loss at home on Tuesday as they take on the WPI Engineers. The Engineers are assisted by former Lancers standout Camryn Burgio adding an extra level of spice and excitement to the home court match on the night. Graduate Student Mave Cadogan will also be looking for just eight more total blocks to claim the Worcester State Career title in Blocks, a feat she aims to complete today.

Final:

Worcester State:0

WPI: 3

(16-25, 18-25,18-25)

How It Happened:

The Engineers got off to a nice start playing it tight against the Lancers defense as they started off on a quick run but Worcester would fight back making it a two point game to see the score sit at 8-6. WPI would again find their mojo, starting a big run, to go up 14-6.. The Engineers and the Lancers would play the middle of the set to be balanced, but a late scoring drive by WPI would see them claim the first set 25-16.

The second set would show some consistency from both teams as Worcester and WPI would stay neck and neck, only getting as far as three points away from each other early on. The Engineers would jump up to a seven point difference on the back end of the set to claim a set score of 22-14. A small comeback would be attempted by Worcester but would fall just short as the Engineers go up 2-0 and win the set 25-18.

Just like in the previous set, the matchup was even for both teams and their strength were shown on full display. The Lancers would jump to an early lead but WPI answered  the challenge to tie the score back up. Worcester's offense would bounce back, keeping the game again with three in a bid to avoid the sweep. The Engineers would not back down quietly though, going on a 6-1 scoring drive and showing great defense against the Blue and Gold offensive pressure, holding on to get the sweep.
