Bridgewater State: 3
(15-25, 26-24, 21-25, 29-27, 7-15)
How it Happened:
The Bears brought the heat early in the opening set grabbing an early five point lead over the Lancers. The run was stalled by the service of senior Angela Colonis (Waterford, CT). Worcester would close the gap for a brief period in the first before the Bears would once again begin to build upon their early lead. Lancers had some solid moments in the opening set of action but were not able to string enough rally's together for the victory as the Bears would take the first set, 25-15.
The second round of action would see Worcester jump out early, notching a quick two point lead for the Lancers, before going on a four point run that would see them up 8-5. A back and forth scoring cycle would commence between the two squads before WOrcester was again able to a 15-10 lead over Bridgewater. The Bears would not let the Lancers get too far ahead starting a four point run tying the score up 15-15. After a good fight between both teams, Lancers ended the set with a great serve by Colonis to claim the 26-24 victory..
Both teams came into the third set eager to gain the set advantage for the victory and after some small runs keeping the score tight, Bridgewater would take the lead after a five point run, but the action was stalled by the quick hands of first year Katelyn Anthony (Gastonia, NC). Worcester would attempt a small comeback but the Bears snagged the win with a three point run to close out the set, 25-21.
Worcester would come out full force to extend the match, grabbing an early five point run and a 6-3 lead. Bridgewater would work hard to keep the points within three with small runs from both Bears and Lancers keeping everyone on their toes. The Lancers would persevere and grab the 29-27 set victory and force a deciding set five on the night.
Bridgewater would jump out early with a nine point run, but the Lancers were not willing to concede the fight and came back off the strong hands of graduate student Maeve Cadogan (Wilmington, MA) and junior Cassidy D'Esposito (Medford, NY). Although Worcester would attempt to meet point for point, the early lead was just too much as Bridgewater claimed the 15-7 fifth and final set for the win.
First Year Katherine Crateau (North Andover, MA) would end the day with three sets played, but still a team leading 15 digs behind 13 kills of D'Esposito and three blocks of Cadogan.
