How it Happened:
Both teams were amped up and excited to get going on a Tuesday night as both squads took the court with speed and precision. The game started off with WNE putting seven points on the board thanks to a Jake Harrison three point shot. Worcester rallied back to get the score 11-11 within the first six minutes of play to keep this an action packed meeting. Worceter's sophomore Jaylen Kirkland's (Gardner, MA) layup put the Lancers into the lead thanks to a great pass by Senior Brandon Goris (Bronx, NY) and a defensive rebound by Junior Ayme Daguilh (West Boylston, MA). The first half for Worcester came with some early timeouts while WNE made early substitutions which kept their players fresh resulting in the Golden Bears having the stamina for a half ending three from Arik Dagan with three seconds left on the clock putting WNE ahead 45-31.
The second half action started with three fouls in the first minute and a half against Worcester State allowing WNE to capitalize on free throws and Tim Restall made a clean layup to make the score 53-31. Kirkland fought back with a successful three pointer and free throw. Worcester State tried to catch the leading Golden Bears, but their well managed timeouts and substitutions combined with their smart offensive force kept the lancers behind. The game ended with a final score of 87-59, WNE who got themselves back to even overall in their four games so far.
Kirkland would lead the Lancers with 17 points on the night, showing his strength both deep and in the paint.
