Men's Golf Ties For 13th Place In Final Round At NEIGA Championships

 

Brewster, MA --- Sophomore Steven Ferraro (Leicester, MA) handed in a card of 76 (+4) as he highlighted the Worcester State men's golf team at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships this afternoon at the par 72 Starboard side at Captains Golf Course.

Overall the Lancers shot 656 as a squad to tie with Johnson & Wales, who was second overall at last week's GNAC Championships, for 13th place (+59) as the Blue and Gold were 26 strokes out of the top five. The score was also 32 shots better than last years finish in 20th among Division III institutions.

For the tournament, junior Jackson Davis (Spencer, MA) paced WSU as he tied for 14th with a 156 (+12), which was just nine shots off of Division III junior medalist Austin Teal (Londonville, NY) of Endicott.

One day after he was tied for 42nd, Ferraro shaved eight strokes off his score to settle for equaling 20th with a 158 (+14).

Sophomore Patrick Sharron (Boylston, MA) knotted 58th (174, +30) and senior David Rixham (Northbridge, MA) fired a 174 (+30) in 80th.

Today's tournament ends the fall season for the Lancers who should have an ambitious spring schedule.

From Sunday - "Davis Six Strokes Off Lead To Propel Men's Golf At NEIGA Championships"

 

Brewster, MA --- Junior Jackson Davis (Spencer, MA) finished six strokes off the overall lead in a tie for 13th place 76 (+4) as he helped pace the Worcester State men's golf team at the NEIGA Championships this afternoon held at the par 72 Port side at Captains Golf Course.

Among Division III competitors, Davis is among three individuals who are just two scores off of leader junior Austin Teal (Londonville, NY) of Endicott after the first day of the competition (74, +2).

If Davis can finish out strong in the final round tomorrow, he could become the first WSU golfer since former All-American Bob Bruso to earn All-New England accolades. In his junior season, Bruso tied for second, just two shots off the lead with a 69, in his opening round at Captains.

Overall, the Lancers had four solid scores to tie for tenth among Division III institutions (326, +33) with Suffolk and the University of New England, just 13 strokes away from leader Husson who had an first day sum of 313 (+25).

Also leading the way for Worcester State was sophomore Steven Ferraro (Leicester, MA) and classmate Patrick Sharron (Boylston, MA) who tied for 42nd (82, +10) and 52nd (83, +11), respectively. Senior David Rixham (Northbridge, MA) rounded out the pack with an 85 (+13) to equal 67th.

The Blue and Gold wrap up their fall in the final round of the of the NEIGA Championships tomorrow.
