Wise, Caldarone Pick Up MASCAC Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week Honors

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) and sophomore Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) have both been selected as MASCAC Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for helping lead Worcester State to a fourth-place performance at the Tufts Invitational this past weekend.

Wise started off the winter semester by taking home top honors in the 200 meters (26.19) before she added a second-place finish in the 60 (7.93).

Thurs far this season, Wise has picked up right where she left off as her best 200 at the Alden Invitational at Brown (26.05) has been the best clocked time in New England, it's tied for the fourth-best in the ECAC Division III standings and its 15th in the Open New England rankings.

Her 60 time to start off the campaign at Brown (7.92) is also the fourth-highest in Division III New England, 10th in the ECAC and 14th on the NCAA Division III list.

At Tufts, Caldarone placed second in the long jump (16-5.25/5.01 meters) and she notched ninth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.86), just 0.1 seconds off qualifying for the finals.

Caldarone's best mark in the long jump during the 2012-13 indoor season has come at the Alden meet where she chalked up 17-6.25 (5.34m). Caldarone's leap is the second-best mark in Division III New England, and is tied for the ninth-highest distance in the NCAA Division III standings.

Ironically, both student-athletes were tabbed MASCAC Track & Field Athletes for their performances at Brown on December 3.

The Lancers will compete next weekend at the Wheaton Invitational.
