Worcester, MA- After another five set battle just two days ago saw the Worcester State Volleyball team (1-2, 0-0) seasoned for a competitive non-conference version match up with Framingham State. Last season the Lancers came away with both wins over Framingham State in five, so a well seasoned start of going the distance aim to put Worcester in a prime location situation for this evening's match-up.
Final
Worcester State: 3
Framingham State: 1
How it Happened:
After a quick two point start for the Lancers they dropped behind early in the set. Worcester would not let the Rams get too far ahead though and caught up forcing a back and forth all the way up to the final points by the Lancers as they would get the first set win with three point sets off of junior Katie Cueva (Tewksbury, MA) and senior Angela Colonis (Waterford, CT).
The Rams would come out firing on a 6-0 run to start the second set and while the Lancers would answer back with six of their own to get back into the game, Framingham would again go on a deep point run to grab a solid lead. Despite a three point set from Cueva and Colonis, the Rams would pull away winning the set tying it up at a set a piece.
The Rams once again came out hot going on an 8-, but Worcester would not go down without a fight, cutting the gap down to just two between the two squads. All the back and forth in points would spark the Lancers offensive action going on a 7 point run to grab a commanding lead. Framinghm would attempt a small comeback, but in the end the Lancers would win the set 25-22 with junior Kate Stedronsky (Sea Girt, NJ) recording 7 points in the set for the 2-1 lead.
The Lancers would open up red hot going up 13-2 early and never looked back in what would ultimately be the final set of action on the night. Despite some small runs by the Rams, Worcester would shut it down and with another seven point set by Stedronsky snagging a 25-17 win and a 3-1 win for the Lancers to go to .500 on the season and putting in an early bid for a top spot in the conference.
First year Katherine Crateau (North Andover, MA) would lead the night with 18 digs while Stedronsky end the night with 13 kills.
What's Next:
The Lancers (2-2, 0-0) have a day of rest before returning to action on Saturday at 1pm versus Wellesley College before hosting their first home game next Tuesday.
