Lancers Sweep AMCATs in Dominant Quick Sets

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball team (2-10, 0-0) looks to get back to their winning ways tonight after a strong stretch of out of conference competitors. Worcester has been tight in every match and is now looking for the elusive win tonight as they take on future conference foe Anna Maria on Brissette Court.

How it Happened:

 

The Lancers started off hot with a large 8-1 lead, led by senior Angela Colonis (Waterford, CT) with three kills in the opening set. The AMCATs however were able to span a run of its own putting them back within reach of tying it up however, the Blue and Gold came in clutch with some huge kills down the stretch to put the match away by a eight score margin. 

 

The second set started off close as the Lancers and Anna Maria battled back and forth  with each looking for the edge. With the score only being within three the AMCATs looked to take the lead. Worcester thought otherwise and went on five score run, stretching out the lead to 14-8. This run was once again led by Colonis with a dominating five kills in the set. The Blue and Gold ultimately took the set, finishing it with a seven score lead 25-18.

 

The Lancers dominated in all three sets in this match, especially in this one taking an early lead at 9-2. Worcester State kept this hot hand going and only allowed seven more scores leaving Anna Maria with just nine on the board. Solid defense was complemented with powerful offense and some great performers from the Blue and Gold include junior Kaitlyn Cueva (Tewksbury, MA)  with five kills in the set and another strong performance by Colonis with an additional five kills. Junior Kate Stredronsky (Sea Girt, NJ) also had a strong outing in the set with four kills. The Lancers ended the match with an imposing win at 25-9.



What's Next:

 

The Lancers (3-10, 0-0) will have a few days off before they return to action when they head to Western New England on Saturday to take WNE and SUNY-Cobleskill in an afternoon tri-match.
