How it Happened:

In tonight's matchup between the Owls and the Lancers, Worcester State came out hot as they started the match with a 5-1 run on the Owls, seemingly setting the tone for the match. Keene, however, was able to respond with a five score run of their own to tie it up and get themselves back in the game. This ensuing battle between the two teams, as they both looked to gain the edge, were back and forth with both teams playing technically sound. The Blue and Gold were fortunately able to pull this set out with the help of junior Cassidy D'Esposito (Medford, NY) who had 3 kills on the set and senior Angela Colonis (Waterford, CT) who had a stellar performance with a whopping 5 kills on the set for the 25-21 set victory.

In the second set Worcester State kept up the same energy with another five score run to start the half. Keene once again was able to respond with a big five point return of their own to tie it up, keeping the back and forth feeling of this match in the air. This set in particular was a great all round team performance with multiple players getting kills to help propel this Lancers win in the second set. Colonis was able to continue her great play into the second set with three kills, while graduate student Maeve Cadogan (WIlmington, MA) also played a great set with three kills of her own. First year Kaitlyn Anthony (Gastonia, NC) also had a large presence, having two big kills on the set.

The third and fourth set were all about the Owls. In the third set the owls were able to play a dominant set coming away with the 25-13 victory. They were able to notch seven kills and six blocks on the set. The fourth set was more evenly matched as Keene and Worcester went back and forth. Worcester was able to put up 15 kills and 2 blocks on the set, however it was not enough as Keene managed to set the set 22-25.

The fifth and final set would see Worcester attempt to get back in the win column staying close to Keene in the opening points, before the Owls managed to pull away and grab the final six points unanswered to claim the 15-6 fifth set and match victory.
