Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball team (8-18, 4-3) begins their MASCAC Postseason run this evening as they make the return trip to MCLA. This past Saturday #5 seeded, Worcester dropped a five set battle to #4 seeded MCLA, but looked to avenge their loss this evening, as well as a MASCAC semifinals loss last year to the Trailblazers to see themselves back in the semifinals on Thursday.
Final
Worcester State: 3
MCLA: 0
How it Happened:
Worcester State would completely flip the script from Saturday as they headed into North Adams tonight where their remained a few similarities from this weekend, with Worcester up 2-0 and a battle of a final set, but this time the Lancers held on for the final kill to take the match in three straight sets.
Worcester would open up the first set taking a commanding 25-13 victory that would set the tone for the second set, which would have Worcester allow just two additional points to MCLA for the 25-15 win. The third set is where things initially looked a bit Deja vu as with both Worcester unable to get their mid set point rally lead and instead the Trailblazers were staying neck and neck with Worcester in the action. Worcester would need two chances at match point, but a final kill that dropped in behind the back line of MCLA would send thebLancers back to the MASCAC semifinals.
Senior Angela Colonis (Waterford, CT) would conclude the night with 16 digs and 11 kills while graduate student Maeve Cadogan (Wilmington, MA) would record two blocks. Senior Megan Bardis (Sterling, MA) and first year Katherine Crateau (North Andover, MA) would both record four service aces in the match.
What's Next:
Worcester now awaits the conclusion of Mass Maritime at Framingham State with the lowest remaining seed traveling to Westfield on Thursday at 7pm.
