Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball team has claimed the 4th spot in the MASCAC Preseason Coaches poll as voted on by the conference coaches. Worcester State was 6-1 last season, claiming the second seed in the MASCAC playoffs before falling to MCLA in the semifinals. The Lancers aim to return to the MASCAC Championship after a year hiatus behind the returning leadership of MASCAC Second team’s Maeve Cadogan and First Team Angela Colonis.
The 2023 regular season champions, Westfield State, grabbed the top spot in the poll with four first place votes and 45 total points. Falling just four points shy of the Owls was Framingham State with 41 points and the remaining four first place votes. MCLA, snuck ahead of Worcester State this year with 39 points as the Lancers wracked up 35 points for fourth.
Sitting in fifth with 23 points is Bridgewater State, with Fitchburg coming in sixth with 18 points followed by just a two-point difference by Salem State with 16 points. Closing out the poll with eight points is Mass. Maritime at seven points.
The Worcester State Volleyball team beings their season at Wentworth in a tri match that will see them match up with Wentworth and Johnson and Wales to begin their season. Their first home match will be September 10th vs UMass-Dartmouth.
