Worcester, MA- The Women's Indoor Track team travelled to Westfield State on Saturday to compete in the Westfield Invite at Smith College. The team placed 4 out of the five teams competing for a total score of 52 points. The Women were led by dominant performances by senior Elena Pellegrini (Ashland, MA), first year Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA), senior Bridget Maunsell (West Boylston, MA), senior Maureen Grady (Douglas, MA), junior Eryca Lopes (Ayer, MA) and Arianna Constant.
Pellegrini competed in the 60m event, where she finished with a time of 8.25s for 2nd, alongside a slew of teammates including Grady, who crossed in a time 8.33 for 4th and Maunsell at 8.39 to score the final point for the team in the event in 5th place. Senior Heather Turner (Ashland, MA) and Lopes also had strong showing following Maunsell to come in 6th and 7th place in the event and close out any competition for the points. Condon added eight more points to the Lancer score with a 28.82 second finish in the 200 meters, which found her in 2nd place followed by Turner at a time of 29.5 for 4th. Pellegrini's big win of the day came in her speed finish in the 400m that had her crossing the finish line in first place with a time of 64.3 seconds. Maunsell was hot on her tail finishing with a time of 64.64 seconds to wrap up the 1-2 finish in the event.
The Women were not all about the springs today on the track as seniors Erica Hanlon (Shrewsbury, MA) and Caitlin Conneely (Tewksbury, MA) had strong finishes in the 3000m, crossing the line at 12:08.91 and 12:23.16 for a 10th and 11th place finish.
The field events were not to be overshadowed this afternoon as Lopes recorded seven points for the team with a 4.42m long jump that found her in 5th followed up by a 9.40m triple jump that had her jump to a third-place finish. Grady additionally added her own 3rd place finish in the long jump with an impressive leap of 4.67m. Arianna Constant made her presence known in the weight throw at Smith College with an additional podium finish with a throw of 8.92m.
The Lancers Track team is back in action next Saturday as they head back to Wheaton College for the Wheaton Pre-Post Season Meet.
