  • Women's Volleyball Awarded USMC-AVCA Academic Award for Sixth Year in a Row

    Worcester, MA- The Worcester State University Women's Volleyball program has been named, for sixth consecutive year in a row, a recipient of the United States Marine Corps and American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for their academic success during the 2022-23 season.
  • Burgio Named Defensive Player of the Year, Three Named All-Conference

    Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball team wrapped up their fall season with a conference player of the year honor and three named to MASCAC All-Conference teams. Senior Camryn Burgio (Quincy, MA) leads the award winners, being named Defensive Player of the Year by the MASCAC Volleyball coaches for her dominant performance all season. Burgio also received first team honors as an Outside Hitter First Team selection along with teammate sophomore setter Angela Colonis (Waterford, CT). The third honoree is junior middle blocker Maeve Cadogan (Wilmington, MA), who was selected to the Second Team All-Conference.
  • Lancers Hard Fought Battle Falls Just Shy

    WESTFIELD, Mass. – Led by 12 kills from senior Erin Gaffney (Worcester, MA), Worcester State University women’s volleyball came up just short in their 2022 Championship bid loosing the match 3-1 to Westfield State University at the Woodward Center on Saturday afternoon. Westfield won by set scores of 25-22, 25-20, 20-25, and 25-22 in the final set, when Westfield rallied from down 22-19, winning the final six points of the match to close out the Lancers for the title.

    Framingham, Mass. - The fourth seeded Worcester State Lancers upset the top seeded Framingham State University volleyball team in a thrilling g 3-2 victory this evening to advance to the MASCAC Championship for the second straight season.
  • Lancers Take Down Bears in Three

    Worcester, MA- Back on Sept. 28, the Worcester State University Lancers hosted the Bridgewater State University Bears in a tightly-contested, five-set Lancer victory. Tonight, the two teams met in Worcester once again in a postseason rematch as the fourth-and-fifth-seeded teams in the MASCAC. With a spot in the second-round on the line, Worcester State was able to outmatch Bridgewater, coming away with a 3-0 match sweep.
  • Worcester State Drops Tight Battle to Rams on Senior Day

    Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball team closed out their regular season schedule this afternoon with a repeat showdown with conference rival Framingham St. While the Lancers had already secured a spot in the post season, this match was pivotal and determining the final placements for the post season. A win would see the Lancers with a first-round bye, while a loss would seem them back in action on Tuesday night. The game was also held in honor of the Lancers three graduating seniors who have been instrumental in the success of the program.
  • Lancers Sail to Victory over the Anchormen

    Worcester, MA- The Lancers hosted the Anchormen of Rhode Island College earlier tonight in their final non-conference bout of the season. Worcester State made quick work of RIC as they defended their home court well, coming away with an easy 3-0 match sweep.
  • Lancers Drop Double Header to Lyons
    October 22, 2022
    South Hadley, MA - The Lancers took on the Mount Holyoke Lyons, in what was initially going to be a tri-match against the Lyons and the Cazenovia College Wildcats. Cazenovia had to call it off, making this a doubleheader between the Lyons and the Lancers. The Lancers were unable to rebound from their three set shutouts and dropped both matches to the Lyons.
  • Lancers Hard Fought Battle Falls Shy in Salem
    October 19, 2022
    Worcester, MA- The Lancers made a pre-Halloween trip to Salem, Mass. tonight to take on Salem State University looking to pick up their fifth MASCAC win of the season against the Vikings and extend their current win streak to four matches. The Lancers came in hot on the tails of a three-win week, but were stopped in their tracks by Salem State in a tightly contested game.
  • Lancers Makes it Three Straight with Dominant Night Over Buccaneers

    Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball team looked to make it three in a row tonight, taking on MASCAC opponent Mass. Maritime on Brissette Court. The Lancers dominated the night winning with a clean 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-22). This week has been a triple week for Worcester State Volleyball, going 3-0 on the week, closing out all three matches without conceding a set.
  • Lancers' Volleyball Secure Second Win in Two Days

    The Lancers hosted Anna Maria College earlier this evening in mid-week non-conference play, as they attempted to keep the momentum going from yesterday’s win over MCLA. And carry that momentum they did, as the Lancers controlled the match right from the start and did not allow the Amcats of Anna Maria much of a chance, sweeping them three sets to none on head coach Bernie Chase’s birthday.
  • Lancers Victorious over MCLA in MASCAC Volleyball Play

    Worcester, MA - The Lancers traveled out west to North Adams, where they took on the Trailblazers at MCLA’s Amsler Campus Center Gym Tuesday evening in MASCAC Volleyball action. With a kill by first-year Kate Stedronsky (Sea Girt, NJ), assisted by sophomore Megan Bardis (Rutland, MA) to seal the third set victory for Worcester State by a score of 25-10, the Lancers handed MCLA their first conference loss of the season with a 3-0 set sweep.
  • Lancers Drop Two on the Afternoon
    October 08, 2022
    Worcester, MA- The Lancers spent the Saturday of this Indigenous People’s Day weekend in Western Massachusetts, competing in a tri-match hosted by Smith College. The first match would feature Worcester State and SUNY Oneonta during the middle of the afternoon series, followed by an evening showdown with the hosts, Smith College. The Lancers would go on to drop both, extending their losing streak to six.
  • Worcester Struck Down by Cougars

    Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers made their way across town to Clark University for a non-conference matchup tonight at Kneller Gymnasium. The Cougars closed out the Lancers in three sets with (25-19, 25-8, 25-21) and had dominant control of the match for most of the evening.
  • Worcester Falls to Dartmouth in Three

    Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers made their way to the Tripp Athletic Center at UMass-Dartmouth this evening to take on the Corsairs in non-conference volleyball action. UMass-Dartmouth held complete control throughout the evening, sweeping the Lancers three sets to none, never trailing in a set.
  • Worcester State Drops two in Boston
    October 01, 2022
    Worcester, MA-The Lancers ventured to Tansey Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. this afternoon to take on Eastern Nazarene College and Wentworth Institute of Technology in a tri-match day in support of Dig for a Cure. The pair of Boston schools provided too tough a challenge for Worcester State, as the Lancers dropped both matches to open their October.
  • Lancers Take Down Bridgewater St. in 5 Set Battle

    Worcester, MA- Worcester looked to make it two straight tonight in the Wednesday night battle on Brissette Court. The Lancers were coming off a three sets to one victory over Fitchburg last Friday and aimed to ride that momentum the match. The Lancers pulled off the victory with a come from behind win, claiming the match 3-2 (12-25, 25-22, 25-17, 16-25, 15-13)
  • Lancers Fly Over Falcons for First MASCAC Win

    Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball claimed a victory to kick off the homecoming weekend with a 3-1 (25-12, 25-20, 17-25, 27-25) win over the Fitchburg Falcons Friday Night at Parkinson Gymnasium.

    Worcester, MA- The Lancers hosted Western New England this evening in the first batch of homecoming games of the weekend. The Lancers were coming off a tight battle from Keene St. on Tuesday night. Worcester State played it strong, before ultimately falling 3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 25-20).

    Worcester, MA - The Lancers hosted a tri-match today. To start off the day Worcester State faced Framingham State in a non-conference match then St. Joseph's College of Maine took on Framingham State in Match 2 and the day concluded with St. Joe's taking on the Lancers.

    Worcester State University?s nursing program is among the institution's highest regarded concentrations. The challenge, skill and difficulty of the major make pursuing athletic endeavors a remarkable feat. In turn, the program's pedigree results in a couple of precedents for students who take on the challenge. For example, many nursing students have to change majors due to the demanding workload, and with that, there are very few student-athletes that are able to continue their athletic endeavors while remaining a nursing student during their entire eligibility. Enter Camryn Burgio. Not only has she figured out how to balance the nursing workload and Volleyball, but she?s doing it at a high level of play.

    Worcester, MA- The Lancers hosted two matches today two complete their opening weekend at home. Worcester State faced off against Trinity College and the University of New England in a Saturday showdown. They fell in the first set 3-0 (25-14, 26-24,25-18) to Trinity and came away with the victory in the second match of the day 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-23, 25-20).

    Worcester, MA- It was a tight match for all three sets as the Lancers battled Regis in every set but ultimately fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-21) on Tuesday night at Higgins Court within the Regis Athletic Facility.

    Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball fell to Roger Williams and Brandeis on Saturday afternoon. Falling to Roger Williams 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-19) and Brandeis 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-15).
  • Worcester State Leads the Way with 190 Student-Athletes Named to Fall/Winter 2022 MASCAC All-Academic
    Worcester, MA- A total of 1,218 student-athletes have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with selection to the league’s Fall/Winter 2022 All-Academic that was released earlier today by Commissioner Angela Baumann. Worcester State led the MASCAC with 190 Student Athletes named to the Fall/Winter 2022 All-Academic Team.
  • Worcester State Volleyball Announces 2023 Schedule
    Worcester, MA- Head Coach Bernie Chase, starting his 19th year at the helm, has announced his team’s slate of 2023 matches. The team is looking to avenge a MASCAC Championship loss to Westfield State in their bid for a return to the NCAA tournament this fall. The group of athletes, who have never failed to qualify for the post season tournament, will be led by graduate senior and MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year Camryn Burgio. Alongside Burgio will see the return of fellow graduate student Erin Gaffney along with MASCAC First Team All-Conference selection Angela Colonis and Second Team All-Conference honoree Maeve Cadogan, who will be surrounded by a talented group of returners and incoming talent.
  • Worcester State Lancers vs. Westfield State Owls Women’s Volleyball MASCAC Championship Preview:
    Worcester, MA- For the second consecutive season and the fourth time in the last five seasons, the Worcester State Women’s Volleyball program has advanced to the MASCAC Championship Game for the chance to stamp their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. This season's run to the championship can be considered magical, as the Lasers had to upset last year’s MASCAC champion and number-one seed Framingham State to make the journey up to Westfield on Saturday afternoon. When the Lancers and Owls met up in Westfield on Oct. 14, Westfield State was able to defeat Worcester State 3-1 in four sets. However, the game result can prove to be misleading as two of the three sets Worcester State lost were by six or fewer points. Below are three keys that the Lady Lancers need to focus on to put themselves in a favorable position to bring a MASCAC Championship trophy back to Worcester.
