    DANBURY, Conn. – Freshman guard, Alex Santos (Lawrence, Mass.) has been named the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for his third time this season as announced by the ECAC for the week ending Feb. 28.

    BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Junior guard Fawaz Mass (Taunton, Mass.) knocked down the game-winning jumper with just 9/10 of a second remaining in regulation to lead the Bridgewater State University men’s basketball team to a dramatic 67-65 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over visiting Worcester State University on Saturday afternoon at the Tinsley Center.

  • Worcester State Trio of Santos, Shakir, and DiBernardo Leads Lancers to Overtime Victory

    NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - The Worcester State trio of Alex Santos (Lawrence, Mass.), Bilal Shakir (Worcester, Mass.), and Ryan DiBernardo (Springfield, Mass.) combined for 76 points in leading the Lancers past the MCLA men's basketball team 104-96 in overtime this afternoon in MASCAC action from the Amsler Campus Center Gym. The win improves the Lancers to 13-7 overall and 5-2 in league play. MCLA drops their eighth straight tilt in falling to 4-15 and are 0-7 in league play.

    WESTFIELD, Mass. – Worcester State’s junior guard Bilal Shakir (Worcester, Mass.) swished a three-pointer from two steps inside half court as time expired, vaulting Worcester State past Westfield State, 89-88, in MASCAC action Wednesday night at the Woodward Center.

    WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State’s Paul Brooks (Arlington, Mass.) and Bilal Shakir (Worcester, Mass.) scored 20 and 18 points, respectively, to help lead the Lancers (11-7, 3-2 MASCAC) over the Framingham State Rams (4-13, 1-4 MASCAC) 70-58 Saturday afternoon at the Harrington Auditorium on the campus of WPI.

    Bilal Shakir suffered a torn ACL in his right knee midway through the 2012-13 season, his second at Quinsigamond Community College. The injury kept Shakir out of action for about a year, and for the exception of area recreational leagues, he didn’t play for two more years after that while attending QCC part time and working. But the former Worcester Tech star always knew he would resume his college career.

    SALEM, Mass. - Marcus Faison (Cambridge, Mass.) led Salem State with 27 points and 14 rebounds and Shaquan Murray (Boston, Mass.) finished with 22 points on 50% (9-18) shooting as Salem State defeated Worcester State 94-83 on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings improve to 8-7 and remain unbeaten in the MASCAC at 2-0 while the Lancers slide to 9-6, and 1-1 in conference.

This is Santos’ third time - second consecutive - this season earning this accolade.
