John Muse enters his first season as the head coach of the Worcester State women’s track & field and cross country teams. Previously, Coach Muse was an assistant for four seasons of the WSU women’s indoor and outdoor program.

This past year, Coach Muse helped guide the Lancers to a record-breaking campaign as an assistant during the indoors and as the interim head coach in the 2012 outdoor season. The squad captured a pair of MASCAC titles, placed sixth at the Division III New England Indoor Championships and fourth at the Division III New England Outdoor Championships. He also brought a school-record five female student-athletes to the NCAA Division III Championships while tying for 28th place for their highest finish ever.

The Blue and Gold have won a MASCAC Indoor or Outdoor Championship three out of four times during the 2010-11 and 2009-10 seasons as they were runners up in the New England Alliance standings at every meet.

Coach Muse is a USA Track and Field Level 1 certified coach he has taken both the USTFCCCA Academy jumps specialist course and the NPVCA Pole Vault course.  

As a 2008 graduate of Westfield State, Coach Muse was selected as the third-ever team captain in his junior year. While at Westfield State, he helped the Owls win four MASCAC and New England Alliance Championships. Coach Muse was a conference champion in the 55 meters, the 100 meters and the 200 and he was a three-time champion in the 4x100 relay.

In 2007, Coach Muse helped set the meet record in the 4x100 relay as the squad clocked a time of 42.30. He was also named an All-New England athlete later on that season as she finished sixth in the 100.
