Doug Caves begins his first season with the Worcester State women's track and field program. He will work exclusively with the women's sprints group.
Coach Caves brings a wealth of knowledge as a former standout student-athlete at UMass Lowell. From 2007-10, he was honored as an eight-time All-American including four times in the 400 meters, a trio of occasions in the 4x400 meter relay and once in the distance medley relay.
Coach Caves also was New England Champion in the 400 three times including twice in the indoors, the indoor 4x400 relay and he was also runner-up in the 200 meters during the 2010 outdoor season.
During the 2009-10 season Coach Caves was ranked as one of the top 400 meter sprinters in the United States and he set a personal best time of 46.23. He still holds UMass Lowell marks in both the indoor and outdoor 400 meters as well as the 4x400 meter relay.
Originally a native of Oxford, Coach Caves was an All-State Champion in the 600 meters and he was ranked ninth nationally in the event. He still holds eight Oxford High school records from the cross country season all the way up to the 600.
In 2011, Coach Caves spent a season as a volunteer coach at his alma mater. He graduated with a 3.2 grade point average from UMass Lowell with a double major in Psycology and Criminal Justice.
