  • Five Student-Athletes Named To All-MASCAC Men's Soccer Team

    Buzzards Bay, MA --- Highlighted by first-team selections Alex Wolfel and Kerlenz Benjamin, Worcester State had five honorees on this years All-MASCAC men’s soccer team as announced by league publicist Jim Seavey in a vote by the leagues eight head coaches last week. Head coach Jason Willis was also tabbed the Turfer MASCAC Coach of the Year.

    Castleton, VT --- Sixth-seeded Worcester State dropped a 2-1 decision in double overtime to #3 Castleton State this evening in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Division III New England Tournament. Sophomore Alex Wolfel netted his team-leading ninth goal in the setback for WSU.

    Cape Cod, MA --- The Worcester State men’s soccer team has been tabbed into the sixth seed and will travel to #3 Castleton State on Wednesday at 6 PM in this week’s upcoming ECAC Division III New England Men’s Soccer Tournament. This marks the second-ever ECAC appearance for the Lancers.

    Salem, MA --- Third-seeded Worcester State was bounced from the semifinals of the MASCAC Men's Soccer Tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 loss in overtime to #2 Salem State. Senior goalkeeper Evan Wilga made 10 saves for the Lancers in the setback.

    Buzzards Bay, MA --- Sophomore Alex Wolfel scored a pair of second half goals for Worcester State to help lift the Lancers to a 2-0 triumph over Fitchburg State in MASCAC men’s soccer action this evening at Clean Harbors Stadium. The third-seeded Lancers will play #2 Salem State on Thursday at 3:30 in the conference tournament semifinals.

Biela finished with two markers and three helpers in the triumph for WSU.

Senior keeper Evan Wilga and freshman reserve Emil Dedo each split halves and combined for five saves in the setback.

    Buzzards Bay, MA --- Worester State senior forward Andrew Babineau has been selected as MASCAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for his efforts in a triumph over Westfield State this past Saturday. For Babineau this is his first career weekly honor and the second for the WSU men's soccer team.

With a 2-1-1 record, the Lancers are now in a three-way tie for second place with the Owls and Bridgewater State.

    Worcester, MA --- Framingham State used a pair of second half goals to defeat Worcester State, 2-0, in MASCAC play this morning. Senior Evan Wilga recorded eight saves for the Lancers while classmate Justin Biela made a team save late in the game keeping the two goal deficit.

    Keene, NH --- Despite a late tally to tie the game by sophomore Alex Wolfel, Worcester State dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to Keene State in non conference men's soccer action this evening. Wolfel scored in the 70th minute on an unassisted marker.

    Falmouth, ME --- Sophomore Alex Wolfel broke a scoreless draw in the 66th minute converting a penalty kick and the Worcester State University Lancers went on to defeat the University of Southern Maine, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's soccer match played at Falmouth High School.

    Schenectady, NY --- Worcester State lost both of their games at the Union College Tournament this weekend. The Lancers dropped their opener, 1-0, to RPI before they lost on Saturday to Union College, 3-0.
